The Desire for the Journey

We walk the paths in the journey of our artistic lives. It doesn't matter how far a person has gone, or if even if the way has been lost, as long as the passion, the love and the joy are still there we believe that every moment is a step forward. The desire to keep walking is all that matters and all that is required.

Empty Your Cup

We believe in humbling oneself, putting the ego aside, and always keeping an open mind. It does not matter how much a person learns or how much his or her skill has developed, there is always a chance to learn something new even from the most novice seeming.

The teacup is the symbol of Itadaki. The only way to taste the tea of another person is to empty your cup.

The Itadaki Forum is all about cultivating this.

Finished project...

Postby Narffet on Fri Jul 04, 2008 12:49 pm

Had a number of things I was gonna post on FA today, but that's kinda difficult with all the downage ^_^;;

So here's the largest finished piece:

Image

Fabric markers and Sharpies on canvas fabric. Actual size is approximately 18"x20". Had to scan 6 times and piece together in PS, so if there are inconsistencies its because of that. I'll probably rescan before I up to FA, whenever that'll end up being. Its purpose is to be a patch -- this is a full-back patch I'll safety pin to my jacket. Will definitely be recognizable at cons x3;. I've been experimenting with the fabric and effects for the past few weeks and I've had some friends play guinea pigs on commissions. I've worked out many of the kinks though I still learn entirely new things each time I sit down to do these. This piece in particular was a very, very sizable project and I'm rather pleased with its outcome.

They're not all gargantuan ^_^;; I have smaller sizes that start at 4"x4". I'll scan a few of those and post momentarily. Also note the scanner do the colors no justice and highlights the fabric texture more than what is natural.

That looks very cool, I haven't really done anything on canvas before.

Its different. It doesn't take color normally and the texture often likes to make precision difficult. In fact it would absorb and fade colors, so I'd have to relayer often. It was a pain when I had to redo lines 3 or 4 times so they stood out.

Not to mention that I ended up using 5 different types of markers because each had their own effect on the fabric.

It was a fun project. I hope people like them. I'm going to tinker with different fabrics and see how they behave for other kinds of products.

Oh yeah, more ^_^;

4x4, one of myself and one as an Inuki fanpiece. She seemed to like the concept so I offered to make one for her. Again, scanner colors x3. Though I have touched hers up a bit since. Its supposed to be a beach behind her.

Friend wanted Cutman. Just a simple 5x7 ^_^;

Had an interesting piece of scrap, apprx. 17"x4", so I decided it would make a cool name piece. Graffiti has inspired me for a long time now. To the right is just playing at some concepts for a character of mine, but also fills the negative, and fits the theme somewhat.

I really like your style.
So clean and accurate. ._.
For whatever reason I can never get out my full talent like that.

Thank you ^_^ I've been busting myself hard to clean up an polish my work x3;; I'm no where near the level I want to be at. I guess its nice to hear that I'm moving in the right direction though ^_^

I guess these patches helped with all that though. Those markers be permanent. And the heavy-duty AD markers for the blackest-of-black bled through the canvas. If I screwed up I ruined the whole piece n.n;;

You've got a nice style! I like how you got the different "slices" of tone and color in the first picture. Looks very good! :D

Thanks :3 I thought a nice full color/monochrome scheme would provide excellent contrast. Also, the object itself (the piece is technically titled 'the Clockwork Mirror') is a piece of a storyline I've got floating around.

The same friend wants me to do a piece with the 4 guardians from Rockman Zero. Rockman was one of my biggest childhood influences so its all a nice trip back to the basics ^_^ Testing other fabrics to help that particular project be amazing.

Ooh that'll be awesome. I'd like to see those. Shadowman is my favorite of the normal MegaMan baddies.

Things seem sleepy on the artist front ^_^; So I have a few concept sketches I might as well post --

Here's one for the big Mega Man Zero piece I was planning. His name is Phantom and he's one of the X Clone's four lieutenants. He's also one of the few regular bosses in MM history to not have a weakness. This series is HARD.

Image

A few for a folio I'm cooking up. Trying a variety of different anthros, off the beaten path for the most part. Also having fun just devising characters, naming them (ALL my character names are musically-themed), their quirks, personalities, and whats to become of them >3 (maniacal hand-wringing)

These are just quick scratches in the lined notebook I'm planning everything from:

Collins, a meerkat

Image

Romé, a terrier

Image

Russell, a badger (and yes, its misspelled on the paper x3)

Image

All for now ^_^; Or at least, all that compliance with the 'clean posting' rule allows

If you've ever had a fox terrier you'd know they're very, VERY good at doing that face x3;;
