Mega Man games take platforming to a new height of difficulty. Where the point of platformers like Mario is to primarily get through the game (you didn't even have to kill Bowser if you didn't want to), Mega Man requires you to defeat your enemies. The X series added new maneuverability and also more reasons to use said maneuvers x3 Zero in X4 was tough because his melee range was limited, bosses mostly gave you more mobility than actual weapons (double jump, spin cut, air dash, ect).
However, once you've mastered Zero's ability to move and utilize what attacks he does get actually makes him better than X. The spin cut you get when he learns the double jump is the last weapon you'll ever need. I pwns everything. The only thing X gets over Zero is the ability to charge his weapons for more damage -- Final Sigma's first form is weak against fire. Zero takes a few slices to get him down. X can kill him in one charged-up hit.
And if these games make your head hurt, I recommend passing up the Mega Man Zero games. 'Extreme' doesn't even start.
