The Desire for the Journey

We walk the paths in the journey of our artistic lives. It doesn't matter how far a person has gone, or if even if the way has been lost, as long as the passion, the love and the joy are still there we believe that every moment is a step forward. The desire to keep walking is all that matters and all that is required.

Empty Your Cup

We believe in humbling oneself, putting the ego aside, and always keeping an open mind. It does not matter how much a person learns or how much his or her skill has developed, there is always a chance to learn something new even from the most novice seeming.

The teacup is the symbol of Itadaki. The only way to taste the tea of another person is to empty your cup.

Weirdest thing you've eaten...

Just the oddest thing someone has ever made you/tricked you into trying. And wether or not you liked it!

The oddest thing I've probably had was in an izakaya near the school I was going to right outside of Tokyo. It was called basashi, or basically raw horse meat sashimi. Strangely enough it was pretty good! Though I'm not really in a big hurry to go out and try it again ^_^;

I think I've had rattle snake meat before, it has been far to long so I don't remember, but it was good. I've also had alligator tail before. Tastes like chicken.
We are complacient when we get what we want. We rebel when we do not have our way, like children fighting over the petiest of things. We are all greedy dogs whether we like it or not.

Blutwurst that my dad got from a German deli. Basically it's pigs' blood cooked with a filler until it's thick upon cooling. Literally, Blood Sausage.

Not as bad as it sounds, once you get over that you're eating boiled blood.

I went to an all-you-can eat sushi/asian food place once with some friends. My boyfriend tricked me into eating jellyfish...the bad part was that it was not only jellyfish, but spicy jellyfish, so I was dying and couldn't enjoy the rest of my food afterwards. He actually DID NOT know it was spicy, had he known before hand I wouldn't have had to try it. So I can't really even say if it was good, all I tasted was hellish hot in my mouth.

Note: Chevi HATES spicy food, it kills her mouth. Even a little spicy is bad for me. D:

Seafood Alfredo. Now, I'm used to the one from Olive Garden where everything is cut up in nice, vague white shapes. This sucker had actually tentacles in it. Those weren't eaten after I figured what it was.

On the same note, Whole barbecued pig. We went with my sister and her family to this "pig pickin," and apparently they failed at figuring out that a whole pig takes a really long time to cook. They started when we got there. It was about three and a half hours before they started cutting it, and it was still a little raw. I was farly freaked with the whole pig deal (I like to not see the part my meat is from) and undercooked to boot made it just bad. Undercooked pork = bad idea.

So yeah, meat cut up and cooked is good.

Hmm...I don't think I've had anything really strange, but the strangest (as far as I can remember) are...

I'm Filipino so these aren't really strange to me. There are two dishes I guess are pretty strange, one is made with with blood and has blood cakes in it, and a dish that's cream of mushroom based that's made with cow tongues.

I've tried natto once. Which is fermented soy beans. Didn't care for it too much at the time.

I did try that jellyfish Chevi ate.

I love this dried fish snack which uses tiny (finish dunno, what kind they are). They're dried and seasoned and you eat em whole. I've also had tiny baby crabs that you eat whole done in kind of the same way.

I love whole pig cooked on a spit. When the skin is really crunchy and the meat is juicy. Which I mentioned in the other food thread.

I just remembered a few more. Some I like, some I don't, and some aren't that weird to me, but might be weird to some of you.

- Avocado bubble tea (maybe bubble tea in general) It's actually really good, and sweet, if you get it from a good place, without it being sweet, it's nasty. For those that don't know, bubble tea (or boba) is a drink, usually slush or frothy, that is made in many different flavors and usually has small, black, sweet tapioca balls on the bottom. If not tapioca balls, some people have it with jelly. And it is accompanied by a thick straw so you can suck the tapioca or jelly from the bottom with your drink.

- Corn & Cheese ice cream - I had this at Azrael's house. Now, I'm Filipino too, but we're pretty white-washed, so I haven't tried alot of Filipino foods that are sometimes at his house. I thought the idea of corn and cheese in ice cream was...disgusting. But it's seriously, really good. Sweet corn and shredded cheese with makes for a delicious ice cream flavor. I'm serious.

- Takoyaki, which is small battered balls with squid in them, topped with takoyaki sauce, seaweed, and kewpie mayonnaise. Delicious.

Mmm yes, natto. I had forgotten about that. It isn't fantastic, though I have met one non-Japanese person who loved it.

They had chicken and mayo onigiris at convenience stores in Tokyo as well (onigiri being rice balls with a dried seaweed wrapping, often with some sort of filling inside). Also have to say the umeboshi onigiris lacked a lot to be desired. Basically its like a pickled cherry with the pit still in it.

Tako (octopus) is actually one of my favorite shushis :3 And I've had whole squid, cooked and raw.

And one year for a special occasion my fraternity cooked a whole pig but it was in a pit we dug out, placed in hot coals, covered with banana leaves (I believe), and let it cook for a very long time. It was tender and delicious, though some fool took all the leftovers and smothered them in barbeque sauce. With few exceptions I'm not much of a fan anymore and this was drowning in it.

I haven't eating TOO many weird things... here's a couple things though:

These weird sweet/carmel-ish cracker things I like to refer to as cat turd crackers. They look really nasty, but actually taste pretty good. Great snack to have around if you don't want other people eating it!

Beefalo burgers. The meat comes from a crossbreed of a cow and an American bison. Honestly it just tasted like a regular burger. xD

I just picked up some "Cheese Mayonnaise" from an Asian grocery store to bring to my friend Dalus since there's no grocery stores like that where he is. We'll see how it tastes in a couple days - it sounds totally weird/gross to me. Hope he likes cat turd crackers, cause I'm bringing those, too!

I've had buffalo before out in Colorado. I remember it being a little lighter and a bit more flavorful than regular beef ^_^

That sounds really good right about now. :O Maybe I'll have to add buffalo burgers to the "foods I want to try" list! Hehe.

Oh I've had cheese mayonnaise on Okonomiyaki (and hotdogs) before, it's actually pretty good, at least to me. :D

I wondered what cheese mayo would be good on! I'll have to cook up some hotdogs. :D Maybe I can try some on hamburgers, too.

I was tricked into eating sushi and anchovies as well. You'd be surprised how quickly I took a liking to them.

And then there was this time at the pool...Someone tricked me -REALLY- bad that I almost spit out the sausage.

Me: "This is really good."
Guy: "That's a deer turd."
Other Guy: "No it's not! Don't be driving customers away again, Phil!"

and what else.

deep fried cartilage (also japanese)

raw chicken (safe in japan)

marble egg, or rotten boiled egg in a soup (taiwanese)

turtle soup (chinese)

chicken heart (filipino)

squid pizza (japanese)

fried grasshopper (japanese woman gave it to me when i was a kid)

okay damn. i think i'll stop there.
